Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Capital Campaign?

The St. Mary’s School Capital Campaign has been established as a means to finance an expansion and remodel of the existing facilities.

How much do we need?

The campaign goal is $3.0 million.

Why now?

Our school building, built 47 years ago, has served us well. However, it is no longer adequate for our programs, students and community. Tutoring, counseling, and some testing routinely take place in hallways or in areas that were formerly janitor’s closets. The number of books in the library has more than doubled, placing many books out of reach of small children. The current lunch room is used for music, P.E., the after-school program, assemblies, and inside recess. Housing the kindergarten off-site goes counter to current education norms, complicating access to networked programs, shared resources, and specialists. Electrical and plumbing components no longer meet code requirements. We could go on and on, but--plain and simple--now is the time!

What will we get?

Renovation of the existing school will accommodate an updated and expanded library, more efficient offices for administrative, secretarial, and auxiliary staff, and allow the kindergarten to be housed on-site. The hallmark of the 16,000 square foot addition will be a new gymnasium, complete with a stage and modern kitchen. Additionally, two locker rooms and four classroom-size rooms will be included. The entire facility will meet current ADA accessibility requirements with the installation of an elevator.

How will the parishes and community benefit?

A new gymnasium will be a welcome addition to the entire area. What better way to bring people together than to give them a place to meet! Not only meet, but engage in recreation together. Our youth will have a place to gather for fun and games. Retreats and adult education programs will be afforded adequate space, and the events that have brought our community together in the past, such as the school concerts and auction, will finally have a home!

When will construction begin?

The diocese requires that 75% of the funds be committed (either donated or pledged) before proceeding with construction. With your support, we anticipate breaking ground in the spring of 2005.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, all donations to the capital campaign are tax deductible. Additionally, if you file taxes in the state of Idaho, your donation qualifies you for a tax credit for contributing to an Idaho educational entity. Anyone who donates will receive a receipt from the capital campaign finance committee.

What if the goal is exceeded?

Any money that exceeds the campaign goal will be invested with the St. Mary’s School Foundation, which donates a portion of its investment earnings to the school each year. A special emphasis on interest earned with this money will be to improve salaries and benefits for teachers and staff, as well as for maintenance and operational expenses of the new facility.

How can I help?

First and foremost, adding the campaign to your prayers would be greatly appreciated. And, since it is a “capital” campaign, any and all donations are welcomed. You can make a single payment (check, cash, credit or debit card), or if it fits your budget better, you can make a pledge with monthly or annual payments (up to five years). You can also name the campaign as a beneficiary of your trust fund. Additionally, donations of materials and volunteer labor will be gratefully accepted.
