Peggy Sharp Quesnell grew up in Moscow, Idaho where
both of her parents were teachers. Her
dad, Dr. Lee A. Sharp, was a noted range scientist at the University of
Idaho for over 40 years. Her
mother, Rose, was one of the first kindergarten teachers in Moscow at the
Presbyterian Church in the mid-1950’s.
Peggy
graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s and Master’s
degree in Music. While
attending college she met her husband Bart (who now teaches at Moscow Jr.
High). They have three
children; Amie Quesnell Dussurget, born in 1971, Mindy Quesnell Rice, born
in 1977, and Anthony Paul, born in 1995.
In
1974, Peggy and her family moved to Hailey, Idaho, where she worked for the
Blaine County School District for 4 years in special ed. and music.
Peggy received her Music teaching certificate in 1976 then returned
to the University of Idaho to obtain her elementary certificate in 1978.
She has been teaching at St. Mary’s school since 1979.
Peggy
loves teaching at St. Mary’s School, loves second grade, thoroughly enjoys
the children and their parents, and can’t imagine any better place or job.
Her older children graduated from St. Mary’s and her son, Tony,
started at St. Roses in the fall of 2000.
Some
of Mrs. Quesnell’s favorite activities in second grade at St. Mary’s
are:
-
reading
to and with the children each day.
-
celebrating
the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
-
being
pen pals with the University of Idaho Vandals (football, volleyball, and
women’s basketball teams) for community outreach and handwriting
practice.
-
and
actively praying for teachers, students, and the needs of our community.
-
The
class also enjoys computer time, classroom centers, discussion,
Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reader.
Parents
in our class are forming a mentor committee to decide on special project
days each month. Some of our
projects this year will be in Science, Odyssey of the Mind activities, Lego
exploration, and Math Days. Other
suggestions are pending from parents. Our
school welcomes parent involvement and participation in classes and Mrs.
Quesnell loves having parents make suggestions and work in the classroom.
Our
class motto this year is “Watch for Dragonflies”. If you want to know why, ask a second grade student.
Thank you,
Peggy Quesnell
