Pam began teaching at St. Mary's in 1993. Before that she had an in-home
daycare while she was getting her 4 children to school age. Pam attended Idaho
State University in Pocatello and received B.A.'s in both Elementary and
Secondary Education with a major in Spanish and minors in French, English and
Early Childhood. She first taught middle school in Nezperce, ID, then 7th and
8th grade in Grangeville, ID.
Pam feels confident that the children attending St. Mary's receive a strong
education because being private and Catholic allows the teachers to teach to the
whole child. The child is accepted and loved as a child of God, and the child
continues to grow throughout his/her school years emotionally, psychologically,
intellectually, physically, and spiritually. She feels that this love and
respect for each other is the basis for the lack of major discipline
problems.
In the classroom, Pam uses literature in all areas of the curriculum. She
also uses manipulatives in math for concrete learning and problem solving.
Experiments and models are the foundations of science. Computer time is given
several times a week, both within the classroom and at the computer lab. Small group
learning in centers is popular among 3rd graders and is offered almost daily.
She encourages parental and community involvement which brings many adults into
the classroom giving children lots of attention and eager listeners.
For more information, please feel free to e-mail her and call her at the
school or stop in for a visit to see the classroom in action!
Thank you,
Pam Wimer
